Getting ready for event day

A few days before

  • Check the network. On a phone connected to the venue’s Wi-Fi, open https://play.tarmtorb.com/check and press Start the check. It tells you whether phones can reach games from that network, and how fast it is. Run it again on mobile data, which many guests will use.
  • Rehearse. Host your quiz as a practice game, open the big screen, and add bot players with Rehearsal. Play it through once, to see every question as the room will.
  • Choose Smooth images, unless the prizes are big enough that nobody may see an image early. See Images and video clips.
  • Mind video clips. Without a big screen, every phone streams the clip, which venue Wi-Fi can’t carry for hundreds of players.

On the day

  • If you can, connect the computer for the big screen to the network by cable, and keep it plugged in.
  • Open the lobby a little before you start, and show the PIN and QR code on the big screen. Share to LINE helps people who are not in the room yet.
  • If you would rather nobody else joins, Lock the game once everyone is in. See Managing players.

If something goes wrong

  • A phone drops out. It reconnects by itself, and the player keeps their score. If a player changed phones, give them a rejoin code.
  • The host’s computer drops out. Open the game again from Games on any computer or phone, signed in to the same team: the game goes on where it was.
  • A game server restarts. The game pauses for a moment, then carries on from the same question once most players are back, with every answer kept.
  • TarmTorb itself is down. Check the status page, and contact us.

Afterwards

The results page shows Connection health: how long joining took, how quickly phones answered, and how many lost their connection. If many did, the venue’s Wi-Fi was probably overloaded; plan for that at the next event.
